A good friend of mine, writer Rob Muir, once pitched a comedy feature idea. When the pitch was over, the rather famous producer he was pitching to, bought it on the spot. He especially loved the premise because there were "people hiding in the walls".
The only problem was that Rob had never said that. Not "people", not "hiding", not "walls". Somehow, the producer heard it in his own head, and suddenly that was the story they had sold.
Ever since Rob told me that story, I’ve used the term “Hiding in Walls” to describe a pitch meeting or project gone terribly awry.
This section will be filled with true stories from writers about pitch meetings that went horribly wrong, projects that went completely off the rails, and yes, even murder. I have one pitch meeting that actually ended with a murder.
